How we source and check this site
Most health sites ask you to trust them. We would rather you checked. This page sets out where our information comes from, what we deliberately will not say, and how we make money — specifically enough that you can hold us to it.
Where our information comes from
For anything clinical we work from UK primary sources first: the NHS, NICE Clinical Knowledge Summaries, NICE evidence summaries and interventional procedures guidance, the BNF, Summaries of Product Characteristics on the electronic medicines compendium, and the British Association of Dermatologists. Where we rely on research we cite it, and we prefer systematic reviews and health technology assessments over single studies.
Pages that make specific clinical claims carry a Sources section at the bottom with links you can follow. If a page does not have one, treat what it says as general background rather than something we have evidenced, and tell us — we are still working through the back catalogue.
What we will not claim
- We are not clinicians, and nothing here has been reviewed by one. We are recruiting a GMC-registered reviewer; until one is in place we will not suggest otherwise. See our editorial team.
- No dosing advice. We describe what treatments are and how they are generally used. What dose is right for you is a decision for a prescriber.
- No precise efficacy figures we cannot source.Much of the internet quotes numbers like “80–93% reduction” for treatments where the underlying evidence is genuinely limited. We removed ours rather than repeat them, and describe outcomes qualitatively unless we can point to the study.
- No claims of having tested products we have not. Our assessments are based on published specifications, the evidence for the active ingredients, and patterns across large numbers of owner reviews — and we say so on the page.
- No absolutes.Nothing works for everyone. Where we once wrote “guaranteed”, we now describe how reliable something actually is.
How our ratings work
Star ratings and scores on this site are editorial. They are our assessment, not an average of customer reviews, and we label them “Our rating” so they cannot be mistaken for one. They weigh the active ingredient and its concentration, the strength of evidence for that ingredient, whether the product is actually buyable in the UK, value for money, and what large numbers of owners consistently report.
A commission does not buy a better rating, and no manufacturer has any input into what we publish.
How we make money, and what prices mean
We earn commission when readers buy through some of our links, at no extra cost to you. Pages carrying those links say so above the first one. Full detail is in our affiliate policy.
Prices shown are the merchant’s own. Many of the products we cover are sold by US retailers in dollars, so we show an approximate pound figure beside them, marked “≈”, converted at 0.7437 USD/GBP as at 5 August 2026. That is an approximation for scale only — it is not what you will be charged, and buying from a US merchant may also mean import VAT and handling.
